Canada Skilled Migration Program

What is Canada PR Visa?

A permanent residency status in Canada allows a foreign national to live, work, and study in Canada. It’s a residency card that can be used to apply for jobs, buy a house, get a social security number, or even travel outside Canada. A permanent resident enjoys the same benefits as Canadian citizens, except for voting rights and applying for government positions. Moreover, they must also maintain their residency status by adhering to certain obligations.

Benefits of Permanent Residency in Canada?

  • Healthcare and Education: Access Canada’s world-class healthcare and educational system.
  • Education for Children: Your children can study for free up to 18 years.
  • Career Opportunities: Apply for jobs across various career paths.
  • Path to Citizenship: Permanent residency opens doors to Canadian citizenship.
  • Tax Benefits: No taxes on income earned outside of Canada.
  • Freedom: Enjoy unrestricted rights to live, work, and study anywhere in Canada.
  • Family Sponsorship: Sponsor family members to share the same rights and privileges.

Overall, Canada’s skilled migration program offers a pathway to a successful career, a high quality of life, and contributions to the country’s thriving economy.

Eligibility Criteria (6 Selection Factors):

Once the minimum requirements are met, IRCC assesses applications based on:

  1. Age (Max 12 Points): The Canadian government prefers younger skilled workers as they are more likely to contribute to the economy for a longer period of time.
  2. Education (Max 25 Points): A higher level of education increases the chances of being selected for skilled migration. Canadian authorities give preference to candidates with degrees or diplomas from recognized universities or colleges.
  3. Work Experience (Max 15 Points): Relevant work experience in a skilled occupation is highly valued in the Canadian immigration process. Candidates with work experience in in-demand occupations have a higher chance of being selected.
  4. Language Proficiency (Max 24 Points): The ability to communicate effectively in one or both of Canada's official languages (English and French) is essential for successful integration into Canadian society.
  5. Adaptability (Max 10 Points): Candidates who have previously studied, worked, or have family ties in Canada are considered more adaptable to Canadian society and have a higher chance of being selected.
  6. Job Offer (Max 10 Points): A valid job offer from a Canadian employer can significantly increase the chances of being selected for skilled migration. A job offer in an in-demand occupation can also provide additional points in the selection process.

Express Entry Stream

Express Entry is an advanced online system developed by the Canadian government to manage applications from skilled workers aspiring to become permanent residents of Canada. Applicants who wish to move to Canada can submit their profiles to the IRCC for further assessment based on the comprehensive ranking system.

Approximately every two weeks, the IRCC holds Express Entry draws and invites candidates with the highest CRS scores (Comprehensive Ranking System) to apply for permanent residence. There are three types of draws conducted under the Express Entry System: General, Program-specific, and Category-based.

The Express Entry system operates three federal economic programs to assist candidates with diverse skills and experience in settling in Canada:

  • Federal Skilled Worker (FSW): Stream for skilled workers who hold foreign work experience.
  • Federal Skilled Trades (FSW): For skilled workers who hold expertise in a skilled trade.
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC): Suitable for skilled workers who hold Canadian work experience.

Essential Conditions for FSWP Applicants:

Applicants must:

    • Have at least 1 year of paid full-time work experience (or equivalent part-time) in the last 10 years in one of the 347 eligible occupations classified by the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
    • Obtain a minimum of 67 points in the selection factors grid
    • Demonstrate language proficiency in English or French at an intermediate level corresponding to level 7 CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark)
    • Have sufficient funds for settlement in Canada
    • Successfully undergo medical test and Police Clearance.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The federal government of Canada has given provinces and territories the authority to run their immigration programs and nominate foreign workers with skills and potential to fuel their demographic, social, and economic needs.

Each province and territory has determined its criteria for selecting individuals for nomination under the Canada PNP program. Applicants must secure a provincial or territorial government nomination before applying for permanent residency. You must possess the skills, qualifications, and work experience to be settled in a particular Canadian province.

Quebec Skilled Worker Program

Quebec, the French province of Canada, runs its unique migration programs to select skilled newcomers.  The Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP) enables highly educated and trained skilled workers to immigrate to Quebec.

Prospective applicants must declare your interest in immigrating to Québec. If you meet the selection criteria needed to move to Québec, you will receive an invitation to submit an application for permanent selection.

Student Visa Pathway

A study visa is a sure-shot way to immigrate to Canada, especially when you are not eligible for any of the programs mentioned above. The government of Canada allows international students to pursue higher studies in Canada, which instantly increases their chances of permanent settlement in the country.

At the end of your course, apply for a Post-Graduate Work Permit that allows you to work in Canada and gain significant experience. The experience gained in Canada is beneficial while applying for permanent residency through express entry under the Canadian experience class category.

Canada Start-up visa Program

If you have an innovative business idea that you wish to launch in Canada, this is the pathway for you. The Canadian startup visa is designed for highly ambitious immigrant entrepreneurs with a scalable and competitive business idea. It’s a fast-track way to secure your family PR in Canada while diversifying your business potential. To be eligible, your business idea must be supported by a designated body in Canada and guide you through all stages of application.

Canada Family Sponsorship Visa

This stream allows Canadian citizens and residents to sponsor their immediate family member to join them in Canada. Eligible family members may include your spouse, common-law partners, dependent children, and parents.

Eligible Occupations:

Federal Skilled Workers are selected based on age, work experience, and language proficiency. They can apply for a Canadian Permanent Resident Visa through the Express Entry System. The program includes 347 eligible occupations, and candidates must meet the minimum criteria for entry.

How to Apply for PR Visa through FSWP:

Interested candidates must submit a profile in Express Entry to IRCC. Upon submission, they are assigned CRS scores and considered for ITAs for PR Visa in subsequent Express Entry draws. Required documents include an Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA) report, language proficiency test results, and identification documents.
